Violinist Abby Wuehler grew up in sunny St. George, Utah and began violin lessons at the age of five. She received her undergraduate degree in Violin Performance from Utah State University in May of 2019 (go Aggies!), studying under the direction of the incredible Rebecca McFaul and the Fry Street Quartet. While at Utah State, she performed as soloist with the USU Symphony Orchestra in their annual Concerto Evening concert in 2018 and was an Outstanding Senior in the Department of Music at the Caine College of the Arts in 2019. As a member of the prestigious Caine Scholars for Excellence program at USU, Abby received a full scholarship, interacted closely with visiting artists and scholars, major donors, and leaders in the arts, and traveled to London, Washington D.C., and New York City with the Caine Scholars. In the spring of 2019, she was involved in a research project spearheaded by a fellow student exploring the concept of being a citizen musician. This work included studying a commissioned piece for string quartet, recording the quartet, and a concert performance interweaving the the commissioned piece with dialogue bringing attention to plastic pollution in the oceans.
Abby then pursued her master’s degree in Violin Performance at the University of Maryland with a graduate assistantship. Studying with Dr. Irina Muresanu, she just graduated in December of 2021. In February 2020, she had the opportunity to lead the UMD Symphony Orchestra as concertmaster in the world premiere of Maria Newman’s “Our Rights and Nothing Less” for symphony orchestra and speaker. She was also the recipient of the Prince George’s Philharmonic String Internship, sponsored by the Riverdale Arts Council during the spring of 2020. She regularly performs with Arco Strings, a new conductor-less string orchestra in the DMV area devoted to bringing engaging performances and diverse programs to varied communities.
